Hello,
I have an iphone 3gs and recently purchased the griffin autopilot car charger with aux out.
I am loving this thing, it charges the phone and plays just fine, the only thing is, I noticed when the phone says it is 100% charged, the ring on the charger continues to glow amber, I have yet to see it turn green to verify the charge is complete, has anyone else noticed this with a iphone 3g or 3gs? I do realize this is a unsupported charger as it indicates the message when I plug it in.
Just wondering if it may be overcharging the iphone and damaging it.
Thanks in advance!

You answered your own question

And no, you cannot overcharge a cell phone ( under normal conditions, there have been cases of chargers blowing up.. but that's pretty rare and probably involved unmentioned factors)

Question is, anyone else using this product (and I have noticed quite a few are on this form) seen the ring turn green after charging?

If the battery icon display has the "plug" inside, the charger usually turns into the green ring. Other than that it will stay amber for a small period of time. I've got only a 3G though but I've used this charger since they released it.

No, and I believe if you look up reviews on Amazon and the like you'll see that iPhone users don't have it turn green. When it turns amber that means it's charged. Mine is the same way and I've had no problems with the 2G and 3GS.

It Can Turn Green

Hey Duk, saw your post this morning. I actually used my Griffin Autopilot today and made sure my 3GS was totally charged before I plugged it in (I have the 32GB 3GS). Anyway, it did charge some more, about 15 minutes. I think that's part of the trickle charging it does after it reaches 80% charged. And than the ring turned green and the symbol on the iPhone changed from the lightening bolt to the plug. So, it does seem to turn green after all, or at least it did for me today. Perhaps the recent updates had something to do with it, I dunno. But to answer your question, yes, the ring turned green. :)

Same here (Autopilot & 3GS user here too).

Just come from long car journey. Green ring on Autopilot and iPhone 3GS fully charged at 100%.

Also excellent for changing tracks on iPod side of iPhone through Aux input. No problems except unsupported accessory notification.
