Grey Box When Gifting Apps

I did a search but could not find anything so apologies if this has been asked before.

I have a first generation IPAD and whenever I try to gift an app I get a large grey box in the middle of the screen and have to do a system reboot. The app never gets to intended recipient. Anyone else seen this behaviour??

Works great from my Macbook Air but not the IPAD unfortunately.
