If ....

The picture of the 5S box with the grey ring around it is real. I think it's an LED light that lights up while scanning your fingerprint, and to let you know when you have notifications when the screen is not on.

Apples never really had a notification light other then the flash.

What do you guys think, would you like something like this?

I think it be pretty awesome, especially if it changed colors to differentiate notifications.

A led light would be cool. The flash notification was ok but since phone is typical face up, it's kind of pointless.

It think this functionally would be welcomed. It should be a slow pulse indicator, like the breathing light on the old iMacs and notebooks.

I'd love it. LED notifications are one of my favorite phone features, especially if there is a multicolor light that you can customize for different apps.

It is not a LED light. Recently discovered patents show such a ring is needed in order to get through the scanning process. It's just a metal ring connected to circuitry, as seen in some smartphones that feature fingerprint scanners from Authentec.

Grey Ring Around 5S Home Button LED Light?

The patent and other leaks talk about a silver/metal ring. So I don't think it will be an LED. Besides which don't most people lay their phone face down on the table? In which case using the flash LED as a notification light would make more sense! (Not suggesting that will/should happen of course.)

I think it's just metal, maybe something to do with having to have electrical contact for the sensor.

You've been able to use the flash as a notification light since iOS 5.

But I agree, I don't think it's a notification light around the home button. Unfortunately. :(

The idea of a notification led around the home button has been in the talks in the forums since a couple of years ago. It would be cool if Apple listened to that and incorporated it.

I can't really see the added value vs. the popup notifications we currently get...? You have to look at the phone either way...

Well I can see the advantage - the popups only show for a short time if the screen is locked, but the LED would continually glow. But it's just a metal ring this time.

I've been wanting an LED type indicator since they put it in the menus in iOS5 I believe it was. So far it's just turned out to be for the LED for the camera :(

One thing I noticed in the picture, the date on the Calendar app. The 10th.

I have also been waiting on a LED notification light on the iPhone for years. I am afraid this will not be the year as it is likely for the finger reader.

Apple improved the notifications last update but it could sure still use some more work. I would like the additional option of the number of times the tone plays.

Wonder what the date means. The 4S box was the 7th. Hard to see the date on the 5 box.
