I thought moving from a notebook to a desktop would be a smooth process...

On a 15" Macbook Pro running 10.7.2, I ran Time Machine to create a backup.

On a Mac Mini that I am moving to I have tried with 10.6.1 and 10.7.0 (or 10.7.1, not sure what release it was)...anyways...I have tried with no luck to get logged in with my old accounts.

Migration assistant runs fine, but when I get to the login screen, it shakes its window at me with anger and says you shall not pass.

Every thread and webpage I have came across says to use the operating system disc to reset passwords. Done it, and no luck.

Any advice?

Maybe the third time is just the charm. I managed to reset my password via the boot disc. To update to Lion, I needed to update SL though. I finished the updates and restarted as asked.

Now I am getting a blank grey screen...

Final synopsis of issue:

Turn Mini on
Chime
Grey screen with Apple logo and spinning gear/wheel
Black screen flashes for a second
Grey screen with just a small gear/wheel spinning that eventually seems to freeze completely.
