iMac G5 17" (2005). My screen has two grey vertical stripes, about 5 cm wide on the centre of the screen. They appeared suddenly and initially were black. After disconnecting the computer for 7 days while away now the stripes are grey (see attached images). The stripes are not visible in a screen shot! They are always on the same location.

Any ideas? your comments may be helpful. Thanks.

Grey stripes on iMac screen

here is an update on the stripe (Bar) on the screen. After performing a Reset of the computer's PRAM and SMU (System Management Unit), the strip still there but is not grey anymore. The stripe is now made up of multiple line of different colours. The with time they fine lines may become thicker and also 4 to 5 horizontal flickering bars (0.5 cm thick) started to appear across the main vertical stripe. The color of the lines as well as the flickering seems to change with time and activity. However, not the position or dimension of the vertical stripe.

Any ideas!!

Grey Stripes on G5 iMac screen

Call AppleCare and describe the problem even if you no longer have AppleCare. They fixed my machine for free with the same issue. It is a well known issue and due to a faulty display.

One of many major problems with the iMac G5 series.
