just picked up iMic but not impressed.... When I connect my Griffin guitar Cable into it and try to record with Garageband, the input is very low~ I unplugged iMic and went direct into Line In and the input recording was much higher! like 30~40% more! Why does my iMic make my recording input weaker?? I have to put my INPUT LEVEL almost all the way up! just to get a decent, but weak sound???!!

Did you try running it with the iMic Control utility?

Product*Description:
The iMic Control utility provides additional features and control for the iMic USB audio adapter. The software is free for iMic users. Currently the iMic control supports output treble, bass, volume, balance, and mute as well as input gain. Some functions such as audio input gain require that you hot plug the iMic before the new settings take effect.

maybe it's as simple as switching the switch (it lets u choose between mic and line input) in the iMic.
There is also a input thingy in the system preferences (sound - input - iMic) you could put that a bit higher.

Good luck.

I will have to check out the control utility, i just plugged it in and it worked fine for me (just for skype though ;))

do you have an amp?

are you using an amp (if you have one)? the sound / volume in garageband will be much better that way.

i've never used the iMic, but I have recorded in garageband both with and without my amp . . . and have noticed large differences in the sound quality and volume
