Grinding sound when I burn a cd/dvd

I am new to the Mac platform but got rid of my pc because of the endless hassles. I have a two month old Imac that almost always finds an error when I try to burn files or music onto a dvd or cdr. Yesterday while attempting to burn music onto a cd the burner made a loud grinding sound. Has anybody else had any issues like this? Is this common?

My MacBook Pro make a scratching type sound whenever I inserted a CD or DVD into the drive. Burning a CD/DVD was an extremely loud process. With AppleCare, I was able to get a new drive for free.

yeah probably a bad drive, mine doesn't always work proper either. Just call apple, or replace it your self with a blu-ray drive.
