After a week with iOS 7 It seems that this operating system is designed for something groundbreaking. The parallax effect and the layering hint at a revolutionary 3D display that would be similar to the Nintendo 3DS. This of course would be done with an Apple touch that wouldn't be a gimmick and may actually enhance the users experience.

Not sure if we will see it this fall with the expected 5S release, but it would be a major selling point for the next iPhone redesign.

'Introducing the iPhone 6 with the all new Retina 3D display'

According to Cook innovation is alive and well at the company.

Apple could make it useful...

The parallax could be used in place of widgets to show you weather and notices....Tilt left to see the current weather. Tilt right to see your notifications. Look at it as you normally would and neither are visible.

You're not going to get a 3D display until a while after big display makers can make 3D sans 3D glasses. Its an interesting prospect, but don't get your hopes up of seeing this in the near future.

3D without glasses is possible with 4K displays and even it is not ready for mass market, who really knows???
The iPhone wasn't ready either...

Maybe we will see Apple Thunderbolt 4K Retina Displays before...we see a Retina 4K iMac...or would be the iOS devices first...?

And how is that a better user experience. That's a gimmick.

I'd much rather have this as their solution to a bigger screen than a grossly large phablet.

parallax was the first thing I turned off!
I turned it back on again with beta2, but it lasted less than a day before it was banished once more

I'm not a fan

But if you had an optimized display then this feature could make sense.
