I have a Macbook Pro 3,1 (Late 2007) I recently upgraded with a 80GB Intel 320 series SSD (has worked great, so far), and put a 320GB Western Digital 'Blue' where the Optibay once was.

I've noticed some strange behavior though. Sometimes the 'Blue' drive will randomly disappear from disk utility after startup. A few times, the whole OS will go down; typically it just completely freezes (this has happened 5 or 6 times) but this evening, an error message stayed on the screen during the lockup, displaying that the disk was improperly ejected from the laptop.

Here's is the weird part though. I've opened up laptop to take a look inside, figured I might have missed something during the installation. After my previous run-in with these lockups, I removed the screw in the upper right corner, where the drivebay locks into the logic board. Drive started working again, showed up in disk utility. This was three days ago.

This evening, the drive disappears again. I'm thinking about taking the screw out of the top left, to test my grounding theory.

Also, I have verified the integrity/resilience of the 'Blue' drive in an external, did an evening of stress testing/moved 250GB of data on and off. Worked fine.

anyways, has anyone encountered something similar with their MCE Optibay?

Any recommendations for this behavior?
