Group Contacts - Is This new in 3.0 GM?

When playing around with 3.0 GM, I went to make a phone call and noticed that it said "No Contacts". after my initial freak-out, i noticed a "Groups" button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

After Looking at it, i noticed that there was the all contacts group and found my contacts...

is this new?
or am I just way behind here...

I don't have this feature. Are you using Exchange?

It's been there since 1.0 as far as I know.
