I understand that, as of now, there is no way to remove yourself from a group message. However, I have a few questions about disabling group message in settings.

For instance, a friend sent a few of us a text about another friend. On my iPhone 4, I have group message disabled so my questions are:

1. If I reply for the person who sent the text, will EVERYONE see that text? Whether it be today or tomorrow? I have a long thread of messages with the original sender and I really don't want to delete the conversation.

2. If I send a text to someone who was also in the text, not the original sender, will everyone sent the message see my text? I've gotten texts from other people who were added in the conversation but not sure if when I reply to them, is it just THEM or everyone?

I'm not a fan of group messages and I'm always paranoid responding to people.

I think all of my group messages come in as a new string even if I have a string running from the sender.

If you respond in that group string everybody will see it.

Turning off group messages would only stop you from creating a group message.

Almost forgot your last question. If you respond to someone in the group message but do it outside the group, only the intended person will receive the message.

So ... how can I text with just a single person? If persons B, C and D are all in the text message sent by person A then how can I just text with person B?

And if person B replies to just MY text, will everyone see it? This is way too confusing. LOL.

When you are replying to a message or sending a message can't you see who you are sending it to and then accordingly, if needed, remove whoever it is that you don't want to receive it?

Unfortunately, it only shows as one person and not everyone in the thread. The original sender has an Android so IDK if that's it or what.

Like I said, I have a long conversation with the original sender and I'm worried I will have to delete it if I want to text them again just to avoid everyone seeing my texts.

If it is only showing up with a single sender, your messages are only going to that person. How would your phone be sending messages to anyone besides the person that it is addressed to?

Well, think about the flip side of that - people who are replying to the group text more than likely don't see everyone either. Otherwise they wouldn't be replying to everyone. ;)

Or they just aren't paying attention or don't care that it's a group message. If a number isn't listed in the conversation, how exactly do you think the phone would be able to send a message to that number?

If you're sure the phone number of your recipient is correct, and that matches up with the contact info of whomever you're having a conversation with, I'm not sure what you're worried about.

They are likely either not even looking or don't care. In group messaging you should always see all the recipients listed if you actually check the recipients.

Unfortunately, I can't see everyone included in the text. It just shows up as a regular text from the original sender.

In which case if you reply and only the original sender is listed then it should go to the original sender and no one else.

Also, how do you know it's a group message if only the original sender is listed?

How exactly do you think your phone can send messages to someone without an address? Your reply can only go to the number listed, if that number is your friend then nobody else will see it(unless that person forwards the message on).

The associated support page at Apple says this:

If you send a message to multiple recipients without group messaging in use by the sender and all recipients, an individual message will go to each recipient using either SMS or MMS. Responses to these messages will be delivered only to the original sender in separate messaging threads.
