Group Messaging in iMessage on the iPad?

Question, I noticed there is a group messaging toggle on my iphone and not on the ipad.

From what I understand is if you turn that off on your iphone then you can send out messages to more than one person and it'll be appear to that person as a normal text message rather than having these giant painful group text discussions. Is that not possible for the iPad? It helps when you are planning events.
