Though there may be enough room to add complete movies on the iPhone, I am finding that portable memories of specific scenes are more appropriate. Two or three people will not likely huddle around a small screen for more than a few minutes.
Using Handbrake, it is easy to select specific scenes from a DVD. Once you have them encoded, drag them into iTunes. They automatically show up in the Movies list. If you have several clips with different titles from various movies, they will be mixed up -- shown alphabetically on your iPhone.
Click on related clips and Get Info to complete common info. Then choose one (at a time), Get Info and select the "Video" tab. Within the "Show" field, indicate the name of the movie. The scene number can be included as the "Episode Number." Now comes the key part: Change "Video Kind" to from "Movie" to "TV Show". Do this for remaining clips you desire to group -- using the same "Show" title.
Make certain the Show is selected before syncing the iPhone. Afterwards all related clips are sequentially stored in a subdirectory under TV Shows.
