1st and foremost, wouldn't AT&T WANT group SMS and MMS. The easier it is for us to send multiple messages, the faster we will deplete the allotted message on our plans and either get charged for going over of buying larger, more expensive plans.

2nd Has anyone seen any hint of group SMS / MMS in any version of 3.0??

edit: By group SMS / MMS (even email) I am referring to Outlook groups.
Like tapping on "Family" (a group with say 10 contacts) and sending a message to them without having to click each individual name.
Sorry for being unclear.

I send group SMS all the time, and I'm on 2.2.1

Haven't heard anything, but they could bring it in - When you go to Messages, new message, write new message, and + for new people to send to, it gives you the "All contacts" list. But, that is a group, as there's a <==Groups icon in the top left.
If you click on that, you can see that the default list of people is from the All Contacts group, but they could open it up so you could either select multiple contacts from another group (where you just tap the ones you want), or select a whole set of contacts from a group in this window.

I think the original poster is asking if it's possible to send to predefined groups, for example contact groups in the address book. I have checked on 3.0 and as far as I'm aware, this is not possible still.
