When one adds an email address or phone number to the Contact book, I never recall the option of adding to a specific group. I see the following Groups:

1. All Contacts (145 contacts)
2. All on My iPhone (107)
3. Google Sync (94)
and something at the bottom of that page stating Google Sync Global Address

Why the difference in the total if I have added mostly from the phone and not from Gmail on the web? How can I get a grip on what is going on here? My goal would be , if I add a phone number or contact from my phone, I would prefer Gmail save it on their servers from my entry action. Someone needs to back me up besides that SIM card.

I hope this makes sense. Thanks for reading.

My understanding is that Google Contacts sync one way... to the Mac
Not from the Mac to Google

I use Spanning Sync to accomplish two way sync
That way, no matter where I add a contact, it should show up on all of my devices and on Google Contacts
