I really don't know much about windows gaming, but have an 09 2.9quad mac pro on the way, with 6GBs of ram and a gtx 285. Does anyone have any idea how this would run GTA iv? I'm above the system requirements (I think) but I've heard it runs notoriously bad.

GTA IV is a pretty crappy port and it seems to have performance issues on many machines. CPU seems to be more of an issue then GPU so as long as you have a quad core machine it should be fine, and don't crank up the visual effects sliders too far in the graphics options as no machine can handle them at high settings.
GTA 4 will run great on a Mac Pro. The GTX 285 is a beast and will handle GTA IV fine. Even though the game is poorly optimized at a hardware level, your Mac Pro will handle this game fine.
