Hi.

Whenever I start my PS2 with GTA San Andreas , it gets stuck.
Previously -some months ago- it worked fine. Now, after 2-10 min. it freezes, and a text appears "Error reading disc GTA San Andreas", or something like that, and the music just keeps playing. I've tried everything, pressing on every button, putting the disc out, and back in. Nothing helps. It takes longer to load the game, then I'm able to play it, which sucks.

There could be some scratches on my disc. I've heard of putting toothpaste on your disc (???) so that the scratches equal the surface, but I'm not sure about that.

Any idea what I can do?

I wouldn't think opaque fluids would help for a scratched CD. There are gels you can get that might work, haven't seen them in about 10 years but a friend had a really scratched screen on his mobile. A few (tiny) bottles of this special filler and it was much better.

Could be a PS2 laser problem. I thought it might be a laser focussing problem but SA is on a single layer DVD. Try another game. Chances are it's the notorious PS2 laser problem.

I don't know about playstation discs but my friend used to fix all kinds of discs for me in college with toothpaste.

Well, it could be PS2, because a week ago the PS2 didn't want to play a game. It just stayed at browser.. And another game I have. WRC4 is playable, but some things of the game, the ps2 just freezes..

Thens you need a new PS2 laser! They're relatively cheap here.

cheap, like how cheap? And where? Since I almost never play ps2 it's probably not worth it. We primarily use the PS2 as DVD player, but they're very cheap.

Just been looking around, price varies from £1.99-£8 (mostly for the Slim PS2). We have local computer fairs around here that offer a flat sum of £15 for parts and installation, have a look around your place for them.

eBay seems to be a good place to go for the replacement laser unit.
