I grabbed myself a copy of GTA Vice City (off the app store, for mac) yesterday, spent a fair amount of time trying to map the buttons on the controller to the game. I'm using a normal PS3 controller.

Having played all iterations of GTA on the consoles I'm pretty stuck in my ways with how the controller should be set up, now i know I'm not going to successfully map the buttons exactly as some of the mapping on the console versions is event specific, so one button can effectively have two separate actions.

Here's the thing, i got out my old PS2 copy of the game to assist with mapping the right button to the right action and for the most part have been successful. Up to a point. I'm unable to alter the y axis so look up is pushing the stick up, which then resorts me to going back to the classic configuration (which i actually prefer), where you have a target button (Right Bumper 1 - top) hold that then press circle to shoot. Just the same as the PS2 version. But i come a cropper when i try to map the switch target buttons which would normally be Right Bumper 2 and Left Bumper 2, while RB1 is being held down.

Pretty much everything else is fine and dandy, and i can get around most of the other key/pad binds.

What i wondered was if i was able to manually modify the key mapping files, or if there's a control pad application that can provide me with the shortcuts i need (essentially the combining of buttons on the pad emulates the press of a unique key thus giving me the function i require).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Matt

I would actually like to know this too im having trouble with the same exact thing. Im trying to get it as close to the original controls as possible so I've been trying to map "R2+L2: Look behind"

Ah, same as the PC version then. It can see parts of the controller but not the whole thing.

They're all the same. I can't use either my Xbox 360 or PS3 controller with any of the GTA3 games, so I went and built a special app to run beside San Andreas to get the Steam version working with a 360 controller. Been trying to get a Vice City version done too but it's not looking hopeful.

(I made this years ago, there might even be a real solution now)

OP, could you post your controls as they are right now? Im just curious to see how you've set them up because for some reason it won't let me fire from inside a vehicle.
