I've put an offer in on a second hand mac pro, with a GTX 285 1GB in it. I can't find much info on this on the mac site - is this a very old/bad card for gaming?

Well, just bought it. Specs:

One 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor
6GB (3x2GB) memory
640GB hard drive
1TB hard drive 1
18x double-layer SuperDrive
Apple wired keyboard and mouse
GeForce GTX 285 Gfx card
Mac OS X Snow Leopard
Mini display port to DVI adapter (for connecting that extra monitor)
Airport extreme Wi-Fi card
Elgato EyeTV TV tuner (Watch and record live TV on your mac pro)
Original box and all original manuals

Is that Xeon 3500 or 5500? Does it make a huge difference? :apple:

Xeon 3500… the 5500 part has 2 QPI links and costs more than 2x as much for each chip.

How much was it?

I hope I've not shot my self in the foot performance wise? It was ending soon so I grabbed it for my audio work instead of an i7 iMac. No nice big screen, but yea. I payed 3142 US dollars for it (bought it in pounds). 3 Months left on the warranty so I'll pick up applecare. I can't wait :)

I only need the power to run Logic - I am composing for games. I've heard the GTX 285 is ok in windows for games?

Mini displayport to dvi? I thought the gtx 285 only came with dual dvi and Jo mini displayport connections.

Given that you're mostly focusing on audio content creation and not visual stuff I don't see how it should be a problem, that monitor is a little on the steep side *but i come from a country where a 22" is about £90. Hope you enjoy your new Mac Pro and screen : )

I'll go into town and look at the one place to buy screens, see if I can pick one up right away...I can't stress how stretched I am for cash now - with bills to pay!

If I'm looking at performance in games on windows, is the GTX 285 1GB the same as the mac one? Can I expect the same as the graphs are showing?

I thought I'd just put this out there, just in case your not aware, we will likely see the next generation of Mac Pro's in the next several months.

Well, it's fallen through. The guy buying my macbook pro has pulled out in the last possible second, real idiot. I now can't afford the mac pro and have to cancel on this poor guy. I'm gutted :(
