I was on vacation last week, so I had a slow internet connection and couldn't get on apple's website (timeouts) to order on the 15th. The morning of the 16th I was able to get my order in. Didn't pay much attention to the ship date, I just assumed it was for the 24th. Just got back from vacation and looked at the confirmation email and it shows the ship date as July 11th with a delivery date of July 15 to 17th 
I called Apple this morning, she said I was too late with my order to be in the first wave of shipments.
Now I have to get up early and stand in line on my birthday
