Here's what I figure the new MBP 17" will be like:

Option for quad-core CPUs.
Support for 8GB or RAM.
Option for non-glossy screen.
Hybrid SLI solution.

No blu-ray yet.

And of course, the trackpad will be the same multitouch goodness that comes with the new MBP 15" and the new MB.

i would not look for anything more than a 17" version of the 15". anything beyond that is a dream.

I think it all depends when it comes out... if it comes out post Mac Pro update then it's likely it will have more options and then the 15" will follow suite... if it's before then i agree it will just be a bigger version of the 15"... but for people hoping for a matte screen... it isn't going to happen... matte is in the past for good... steve said so himself... I would say blue rays a possibility, and quad core maybe... but most defiantly by the nehalem update.

apparently the 15" will support 8GB RAM, according to MR front page...

i believe it's already been posted that the new 17" mbp's are due out next month.

Support for 8GB or RAM. the 15" already do this (just not advertised)
Option for non-glossy screen. I think apple was really clear that this wasn't their direction
Hybrid SLI solution. This is a software issue, if the 17" does this out of the box, then there will be a update for the 15"

An option for quad-core CPU's would require Intel to release quad-core mobile CPUs. Those aren't due until next year, so don't count on anything other than the current Penryn Core2 Duos.

These are both almost supported already for the 15" if you read the front story...of course with a software update (Snow Leopard??) but you knew that.

Can't wait for new 17" MacBook Pro

My boss just let me know I can order a new MacBook Pro (max. specs). So I can't wait till the new 17" version comes out. Waiting can take such a long time when you gonna get some goodies. I feel like I am young child again and that I am counting the days till Santa is coming. :)

Oh well. That also explains why the iMac 24" is not quad-core..

Personally I was excited by the new notebook announcements and then was disappointed to see no new 17". I am going to wait until something new comes out with a higher resolution.

They have just updated the Macbook Pro 17" on the same day as the new Macbook Pro 15". I can't see them updating it again until some new technology comes out from Intel, ie. April. Hopefully by then the exchange rate will be back at £1=$2 so I can save £200.
