Guest PC (messenger help!) - another PC emulator

I have recently started using Guest PC to emulate windows XP, (i may need it for my engineering course). But everything seems to work fine except for messenger.

Has anyone use guess pc and had problems with messenger?, if so, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, do i have to use a Anti Virus program to protect myself while emulating windows?

I am am not sure about messanger for Windows as I have never used it.

To answer your question about using anitvirus in the win via GuestPC yes you will.

I use AVG Free edition which works better than some of the commerically available ones do it gets definition updates daily.
