can the guest network in the new airport be on a separate subnet?
 
Yes, it can. Once you enable the guest network, you just need to adjust the DHCP address space. However, you only get three address ranges for all of DHCP addresses. They are 10.0, 192.168, and 172.16. Hope this helps!
