Hi everyone, I'll make this short and to the point: I'm looking to purchase a few items to either upgrade my current capabilities or expand them. While I have done some preliminary research into this, I am hoping the experts on this forum will be able to at least help me narrow down my choices. I thank you guys in advance:
Monitor:
-Looking for a resolution in the 1920 x 1080 range, or 1920 x 1200 range, I do not need more than that.
-A monitor that will play nice with my late '08 Macbook (Alu), and while it's impossible to predict, hopefully my future '12 Macbook Pro. It also needs to play nice with my Acer Timeline 1830T. Err...by play nice I mean, not cause me problems...
-I'm not looking to break the bank, but I am willing to pay a little more for quality and reliability.
-I do no photography work.
My preliminary research has so far pointed to the Dell ultrasharp line to be the best bang for my buck with my conditions in mind. Thoughts? Good places to buy them?
Router:
-Must be reliable.
-Plays nice with consoles (PS3/360).
-Plays nice with torrents (one of the Netgear models apparently doesn't?).
-Plays nice with a NAS.
I'm basically looking for reliability and compatibility out of it.
NAS:
-Must be reliable (well, to a point, I realize that HD's themselves are not the most reliable things at times).
-Not overly difficult to set-up/maintain/update/manage.
-Being fast would be nice, it needs to be able to stream video to computers without issues (assuming that interference/network/etc. aren't the problems).
-I do not need more than 1 drive, RAID and redundancy mean nothing to me.
-Cross-platform compatible (is this an issue? Has to play nice with OS X/Win 7).
The synology NAS's seem to be a good pick, thoughts? I know very little about NASs currently, so pardon my ignorance.
Thanks in advance again.
