Does anyone think the makers of Guitar Hero will make a game for the iPod Touch/ iPhone? They have already made a game for the Nintendo DS and for mobile phones. Will these devices be next. I can't stand the fake songs that Tap Tap Revenge uses.

Tap Tap Revenge is an excellent app, and Neversoft or Activision won't make a GH or Rock Band-like App for a while, if ever.

They have for mobile phones (including windows mobile), so why wouldn't they make one possibly for the iPhone/iPod Touch?

They could certainly do a great implementation of GH on the iPT or iPhone. We're still yet to see any "serious" games on the app store so it'd be a while if it happened.

First of all, Neversoft and Activision have nothing to do with Rock Band.

Harmonix, the developer that makes Rock Band (and the first two Guitar Hero games) is now owned by MTV Games. Anyway, Harmonix also made the Phase game for the classic iPods, so it probably isn't too far fetched to think they would make something for the Touch/iPhone too, although they would need special support from Apple if they wanted access to your music library like Phase has.

I honestly didn't know that the same folks made Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Thanks for the info!

Yup, Harmonix made the first two GH games. Neversoft made the 3rd.

Basically what happened was the first GH was made by Harmonix and published by Red Octane (who also made the guitars). Then Activision bought Red Octane and the GH franchise. Harmonix made the 2nd GH on behalf of Activision/Red Octane. Then MTV Games bought Harmonix, which meant they lost the rights/ability to make any more GH games...which lead to Rock Band.

The fake songs are terrible though. I know that they aren't going to go start making deals with record labels (like Guitar Hero would do, but we would have to pay)... At least make it so we can use our own songs.

I'd love to see a Guitar Hero for the iPod Touch. I can't get enough Guitar Hero!

I'll probably get ripped a new one up and down this thread for this, but oh well.. :)

How about putting the money for more Guitar Hero towards buying and learning a real guitar? With GH, you can only go as far as the game takes you. With a real guitar, your opportunities are boundless.

Personally, I haven't touched, nor will touch guitar Hero or Rock Band.. but then again, I've been a guitarist for 19 years, bassist and saxophonist for 18, and drummer for 5. :)

Playing Guitar Hero is not really meant to replicate playing a guitar at all. It's just a game with a guitar controller, and you make music as you play. It was never really meant to replicate the experience of ACTUALLY playing music! Just like Dance-Dance-Revolution wasn't meant to replace ACTUALLY dancing!

I play music, too. You really should give the game a shot. It's a lot of fun, and musically-inclined people certainly have a natural advantage at it!

Bet on Harmonix

As admanimal already pointed out, Harmonix, the developers of the original GH series and Rock Band, already made Phase for the classic/video ipod line.

incidentally, they also made the excellent games Frequency and Amplitude, which are more complex versions of Phase, for the PS2. I highly recommend them!

Every music game that Harmonix has made has been excellent. And they are all about exploring new areas. I would personally bet serious money that Harmonix is working on a version of phase (but even better) for the App Store right now.

I can't wait to try it out. First I need to get my ipod touch (got stolen off the fedex truck on monday!), and then wait for Harmonix. But i am a patient man.

Cheers,
scratchh

I hate that this statement is always made towards people who play Guitar Hero or Rock Band. What about other video games? Why don't people who enjoy Madden quit and get a real football. Why don't people who play Tony Hawk get on a real skateboard? Why don't people who play Super Mario go outside and run and jump around?

Video games are about fantasy. They are for people who want to get a quick and easy feel for what a particular experience is like. It's the same thing with any kind of book or movie, etc.

Anyway back on topic...I definitely expect Harmonix to come up with something cool...and I also expect Activision to find a way to milk some more cash out of Guitar Hero by cramming it onto the iPhone/Touch as quickly and cheaply as possible.

I can't imagine a practical way of doing a GH game for the Touch, using the screen alone. Can anyone else?

It seems to me, for it to be slightly practical would require a peripheral of some sort. Like the Guitar Hero for DS, but even more so, because the DS has the benefit of two screens.

Thoughts?

They have already made a version of it for standard cell phones. Basically it works like Tap Tap Revenge- there's no strumming involved.
