Hey

I've got a trusty Macbook Pro Early 2015 (retina) and its struggling a bit. I dont code but rendering stuff, music, music production, surfing... just slow. The webcam, the sound. All pretty dated.

So I'm going to spend some money!

I pre-ordered a base level MBP 14 M1 Pro yesterday... and it will cost me £1600 (20% off)... but then had second thoughts... and those thoughts led me to the M1 Air.

I like the idea of a sleeker laptop thats ultra quiet and and carryable. The reviews of the M1 Air were great and the forum seems genuinely pleased with it. I could get a second hand one for £900

I guess my concerns are..
-- The webcam is still bad
-- The sound being weak
-- The screen *on paper* doesnt seem much better than my current 2015 Retina MBP

Is the above really the case?

Given I dont code or do design etc, am I mental for spending all this money when a M1 Air will work well for a few years?

Sorry this is a bit brain dump, but opinions valued!

Sorry I just think you're thoughts are every where and you're not comparing like with like. Why do you get 20% off th MPB and will the same apply to the air? Why are you looking at second hand Air and then why 900 if that's the Amazon price anyway?
To decide what you buy you need to know what you need and what you're budget is.
Also, in my opinion the base M1 Pro MBP is a bit of a lie, you should get the one with the 10-core CPU if you're already spending so much on a laptop.

Hello - yes my thoughts are a bit scattered but my requirements are fairly simple: good battery, excellent screen, ports, a good front camera and 16gb RAM / 512gb hard drive. Would like to future proof myself.

I get the MPB M1 Pro for 1600 for various reason. I wont get a discount on the M1 Air

Then I think the obvious choice is the M1 Pro. And Air with 8 core GPU, 16gb RAM and 512 ssd is £1300, so for £300 more you get a lot more in the M1 Pro, it's really worth it.
