Is there any kind of hack to allow the headphone port on the iPhone to do TV out w/a normal video composite cable like on the iPod Nano 3g and the iPod Classic? I don't understand why Apple is holding back on this feature for the iPhone -- the best iPod they've ever made supposedly.
I'm not going to pay $50 for a stupid USB cable.

I believe that the headphone jack doesn't have video like the iPods.
It does have the stereo signal + the Mic input.
So a very complicated hardware installation would be required to accomplish what you suggest.
Also the video & audio cable to be used in the iPhone headphone jack should be thin enough to fit in.

There should be less expensive 3rd party alternatives to allow us use the iPhone video out.

Yep, we need third party dock video cables. Apple end of lifed my old A/V cables for iPod, so now they are worthless except for my aging video iPod, which I'll soon replace.

I'm not going to spend $50 on apple cables. I really hope a third party puts something together.
