Likely to use my 2010 in my new office (see sig) meaning I could afford to risk trying out a hackintosh at home.

One on ebay for £1.5k has the below spec

i7-6700K 4GHz 32GB RAM GTX 950 250GB SSD

He apparently is using expensive parts not el cheapo hence it's a bit more.

Q - shouldn't I get a amd card like the 280x or r9 380 versus nvidia for fcpx? They all seem to have nvidia cards likewise Tonymac just lists nvidia
 
That's not ridiculous for a system. The AMD cards are what is optimized for FCPX so buy those if you can.

I would seriously consider building your own system for cheaper. You're probably not going to gain anything from buying from this eBay seller as I'm sure he doesn't offer support for an extended period. As usual, don't update unless you're 100% it's not going to break your system.

On Google hackintosh builds and you'll find something better for about 1200 pounds.
