Hey all,
Just thought I'd post this bit of info in case anyone else has a similar issue.
Last night, I plugged in my 12" rMB and left it alone for a bit and then noticed that my backup didn't work (to a Time Capsule) and that it wasn't charging. Instead of 56% battery it had dropped to 53%. Thinking that maybe the cable was loose, I reseated the connections and such but still no dice. I moved the power supply around to different outlets but it didn't work.
I hunted online for a possible solution and the only thing I found was an Apple Support doc that said to do an SMC reset for MacBook, Air and Pro power issues. I did that and... it "killed" the laptop. It would no longer boot at all. I then left it plugged it because the power supply did get just a bit warm like it does when charging. After a few hours, no luck. I tried another SMC reset (actually several times) as well as trying to hold in the power button for 10-20 seconds and such but still no power. My MacBook was now a MacBrick.
I left it unplugged for the rest of the night, tried it this morning and... still nothing.
Finally I took it to the Apple Store geniuses. It took 2.5 hours to finally see someone and they messed with it for a bit and finally broke out a new USB-C power adapter and they did an SMC reset. Nothing. Then after leaving it plugged in for about 60 seconds it suddenly started to boot. It was definitely slower than a normal boot and when it did get to the desktop, my clock was set back to 12-31-14. But after I connected to the Apple Store wifi and it did a timer synch, it started to work normally and take a charge. Its been booting fine since. Yay. I really didn't want to do the whole restore, reset my settings, and stuff thing today.
So if you have any of my symptoms, it may be a bad power supply.
Ok, back to using my MacBook.
