From the Telegraph.

Forget the far-fetched belief that it will create a black hole, two distinguished physicists have gone even further claiming nature itself is stopping the troubled £4.4billion project from getting off the ground.

In a theory reminiscent of the time travelling film Back to the Future, the theoretical physicists Holger Nielsen, from Denmark, and Masao Ninomiya, from Japan, have concluded that its discoveries could be so "abhorrent to nature" that they are coming back to stop their own creation.

Wouldn't they have stopped it from working long ago, like before we put in all those billions?
Or now the machine is up and running it's made a "line" that the future can travel down. I mean you can't ring home if there's no phone.

My top 3

1. Section 31
2. Booster Gold stole some parts.
3. the thing only works in the future, but the particles shoot backwards in time
and keep saturating/contaminating all the equipment in the here and now<?!?!>

I thought "this could be interesting", and then I saw it was from the Telegraph. ;)

Aaaanndd... added to my sig. Love that idea.
The idea kind of reminds me of Chronoclasm by John Wyndham.

A concept memorably described by Sue Perkins on the News Quiz today as "Back to the Future meets Terminator meets a Man Who Spent the Weekend with Mr Bong and Mr Chillom".

Whatever the guys at CERN will learn about the Higgs boson, I'm pretty sure they'll find that it is much more stable than some theorists' minds. :)

That's what the Higgs-boson from the future wants you to think.

Somewhere in the world, Religious Man is reading this story, and shaking his head in disbelief..

"THEY said a benevolent deity creating the universe and life within it is a preposterous idea? And then they come out with THIS? Why, I ought to... " :p

Interesting times we live in when some modern scientific concepts (entanglement, M-theory, the multiverse and now this) seem so wacky and out-there.

p.s. "Ethics grip labs. No go." is an anagram of Higgs Boson particle. Coincidence? I think not..

I just ran this story by my friend at work who has a Ph.D. in physics, and he said that while the concept is far-fetched, they're not crackpots. And then he spent the next 30 minutes writing formulas on my white board.

I have no idea what just happened.

That's what you get for talking to a physicist. Why do think we keep them locked away in labs? ;)

Whatever you do, don't feed him any beer....

time wizard

all the chalk on all the chalkboards in all the world will never be able to put the chalk dust back in the stick. for time does'nt exist, time doesnt move forward or backward, things just change.
