Hi,

I have a late 2013 27" iMac and I upgraded it with an SSD a couple of weeks ago which of course means taking out the screen.

The upgrade went well but I've noticed that now I have what looks like a hair inside the screen. I'm not sure how this happened as the screen and the front panel of the screen is one unit on these models. Does anybody have any advice on how I can remove this hair?

That's real bummer. I have no explanation as to how that would have happened, but how did the swap go? Is it as straightforward as it looks? I am probably going to try this in a couple of years.

To be honest, I was very worried about doing it but it was a lot easier than I thought it'd be. It looks a lot more complex online in guides/videos. As long as you have the right tools, you'll be fine.

It looks like your upgrade is the cause (I'm reading into your post) and so its probably not that sealed, so you may be able to remove the hair.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I would love to be able to remove it but I can't seem to get to the screen itself. The glass on the front and the screen behind seem to be one unit (if that makes sense?)

I do know what you mean, but I'm assuming it got in there during the upgrade process because you probably would have noticed before then.

I guess if its sealed and there's access to the hair, there's not much you can do about it then :(

Ahh I was hoping you wouldn't say that.. I'm going to take it apart again later to see what I can do with some compressed air

Good luck, I think compressed air may be your best bet. Maybe used in conjunction with that is a vacuum, which may help dislodge the hair. Even if you are unsuccessful in removing it, maybe it will move to a location that its more or less out of the way.

I really hope so! Thanks for the feedback bud

I have a freggin' dead bug in the center of mine so I feel your pain. Having a SSD installed and will get it cleared out then.

LOL! How on earth did you end up with a dead bug under your screen?!

I've just tried to hoover the hair out of mine, it moved a tiny bit but then wouldn't move any further than that. I did notice some screws on the back of the screen, I'm considering removing a few of these to see if it increases the space between screen and glass so I have more luck hoovering it out. What do you guys think?

I live in Florida, little flying things get in the vents and crawl around in there until they keel over.

I wish you luck on getting it out!
