So I'm getting my hands on The Orange Box set of Half-Life games and I've done some extensive research on what the best way to go about playing it on a Mac would be...

Has anyone compared the performance of the game(s) on Boot Camp vs. Crossover?

For what it's worth the hardware I will be using is a MBP 2.6, 4GB.

Thanks in advance.

I played all of the Orange Box games on Crossover. They work without a problem, just slightly lower performance than Windows XP. But you've got good specs on your MBP so you should be good to go.

We are talking about Crossover with the ugly icon, right?

I gave it a go myself since I only use Windows (Bootcamp) for games now. Oooh boy is Crossover a leap backwards.

So, Crossover.
Firstly it's locked to DirectX8. Loading is much slower. There's such a performance cut that you have to turn off a lot of effects. Plus there's an odd stuttery effect every few seconds.

I always set my options to get the game running at a minimum of 30fps.
The first screenshot was taken in Crossover on an empty level, the 2nd was taken on Bootcamp (graphics turned down slightly for 32 player match). Both running at 30fps.

It's not worth it on Crossover.
