Among the starlings
I recently upgraded to High Sierra, and Safari is doing bizarre things:

  • If I start typing in the URL bar and select one of the suggestions (which I think are most-visited sites rather than autocomplete suggestions, based on how they display and when they do/don't disappear), the page will load.
  • If I type in the URL of any page, including the ones in the suggestions, the page won't load. In fact, NOTHING happens. The body of the page stays white, and there's no loading indicator. It just does nothing.
  • The pages that won't load in Safari load just fine in Firefox.
  • This occurs for Google, Yahoo, and MacRumors (among a whole lot of other things I've tried).

I've googled for ideas on how to fix this (e.g. "disable "don't show fonts smaller than..." - which was already disabled) to no avail. Any ideas?

Edited to add: it WILL load URLs dragged into it in the dock. It seems just the location bar is totally borked.
