I'm considering getting an M4 MPB. But when I close one and pick it up in the store with one hand—my customary way of handling laptops while commuting/traveling—I'm concerned about it slipping through my fingers and crashing on the floor, given its weight, thickness, and slipperiness. An easily occurring and potentially expensive accident. Seems like a pair of thin but highly grippy rubber strips (maybe 4x16 cm), held on by a strong adhesive and placed along the top & bottom front edges, would make unbagging and bagging this beast safer. A DIY solution from a well-stocked hardware store would be easy enough. And I know some users would consider this desecration. Are there such after-sales products? Long-time users: Am I making too big a deal about this risk?

Put one of those snap-on cases onto the outside to make it less slippery. Personally, I'd concentrate on being more careful when removing it from a bag.

It's MBP, not MPB :)

And yes, I think you're making a bigger deal of the risk compared to what it actually is.

I have an old Intel 15" MBP, which weighs a lot: 4.49 pounds (2.04 kg). I've been using it for 5 years now. It sits in the alcove in the living room. Every time I need to use it, I need to unplug it, lift it up and bring it into my bedroom. I NEVER even came close to dropping it. I do pick it up with both hands though. I think it should be possible for you to change your technique and just use both hands each time.

Thanks for comments, including correction of my hasty mis-abbreviation. Never been a fan of external cases—they distract from the inherent beauty and strength of a MBP or MBA. My work style is grabbing a few minutes of work on trains, subways, buses and often not finishing until just before reaching my station. Or a few minutes in and out at a crowded coffee shop. Since I'll be shifting to a home office soon, am thinking about getting a MBA for hitting the road to seminars, meetings, escapes, where I mainly use PowerPoint, Word, Chrome, and Mail—no need for a MBP. Then get a Mac Mini for more demanding stuff at home. The old Intel Touch Bar MBP, for all its faults, was much more grabbable than the M4.
