Handbrake 1080p settings?

What's the best settings using Handbrake to bring out 1080p? Everytime I create an .mp4 from .dvdmedia I can only get 720x480.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have a 55in 3d led tv and my 15in mb pro (2011) I just want to see better quality without skips in the video and without the voices being off all the time.

As long as you're not needing it viewed in an iDevice it's done in the picture settings of Handbrake. https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/PictureSettings

You want Handbrake to upconvert the video? Not a great idea. You are better off letting your player upconvert most of the time.
