I recently got a 2.5GHz MBP and love it. Now, when I encode DVDs via Handbrake, it takes just a few hours (vs. almost 24 hours on my old G4 Mini).
However, I've noticed that with the exact same settings (H.264 video, average bitrate = 1500 kbps, 2-pass encoding w/turbo 1st pass -- basically the hi-res iPod settings), the resulting video from my much slower mini looks noticeably better than that from my Macbook Pro.
Specifically, sometimes I see blocky-ish aberrations in the video from the MBP.
Is this behavior normal? Does anyone have good suggestions of which Handbrake settings to use on my MPB so that I could view the ripped DVDs both on my computer and on my iPod nano? At this point I am considering just using my mini as an encoding machine, but that seems completely stupid considering I just spent $2.5K on my laptop.
