I ripped a movie yesterday with Handbrake at 1500 kbps h264 and was getting about 40 fps and it finished in a little over an hour. I popped in another dvd and ripped it with the same settings but it had an average of about 15-20 fps. All subsequent dvd's did the same. Why the extreme difference? Is there a way to fix it? Thanks.

I don't know for sure, but I think it's to do with how complex the particular frame Handbrake is trying encode is. Mine always goes much faster encoding animation than anything else, so I guess that must be why.
