I'm new, but I did a search and didn't find what I need: I have a new iMac i5. I've downloaded Handbrake for OSx 10.5/10.6 and it says that it's not compatable with my Mac because it's 64 bit. I must have 32 bit machine (there's nothing that says this in specs). So what version of Handbrake to I download? My other question is what's the best setting for my iPad2? When I tried the preset with my PC it created a 7gb file of a 2.5 hour DVD movie that took 7 hours to rip. The settings in handbrake are confusing to me. Help me make it easy! Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you didn't change any default settings on your PC? Amateurs should be able to convert nearly anything and get good results without tweaking anything. If you want better results, then you need to study the options individually and experiment with them.

I know the answer you wanted to hear is: "Set this to 2, this to 5, and this to 16...." It's not that simple unfortunately. I try hard to standardize my settings, but in reality almost every encode is different.

As for which version to download, try here: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/12987/handbrake

and the 32-bit version is here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/handbrake/files/0.9.5/HandBrake-0.9.5-MacOSX.5_GUI_i386.dmg/download
