Lately, my dvd rips (to apple tv 2 preset) using handbrake cannot be opened by quicktime x (error message of filetype not supported) but I think the problem is with quicktime x and not handbrake. This is because the movie file (.m4v) has no problem playing in iTunes, on my apple tv, on my iphone (home sharing), with VLC, and even plays fine on quicktime 7. Just no luck with quicktime x.

Also, I'm running Lion, but this problem existed in Snow Leopard too (I thought the upgrade to Lion would fix it, but it didn't).

Anyone else ever experience this problem. Any suggestions for a fix?

Same issue here - OS 10.6.8. M4V plays in iTunes and Quicktime 7 Pro, but not QuicktimeX.

Note this has an AC3 5.1 audio track, ripped with Handbreak.

EDIT - I had to install Perian to get this file to play with audio in iTunes/QT Pro at all, but still wont play at all in QT X.
