10.5.8 running on a dual 1.8GHz Power Mac G5. I have the 32 bit PCC version of VLC, version 1.1.11 (the latest version), and version 0.94 PPC of Handbrake, yet when I attempt to scan a DVD, Handbrake gives me the error message: "This version of HandBrake is 32 bit, VLC found but not 32 bit!"

This is wrong, they are both the 32 bit PPC versions. I am booted into a 32 bit kernel. I don't know what is wrong here... Clicking "Attempt scan anyway" doesn't do anything.

ya its ****ed, you have to go back the older versions of handbrake that didn't use VLC to scan dvds

I have the last version of Handbrake (0.9.4) and every copy of VLC out there. PPC32, Intel 32 and Intel 64. It finds one of them, i don't know which, but it finds it and uses it.
