Way better than FFmpegX (and more up to date), faster and easier.
I use the 64-bit version, as I run Mac OS X on the 64-bit kernel and extensions.
Somebody handed me over some videos he shot on his JVC digital camcorder which uses the .MOD extension and it turns out iMovie and Quicktime don't support it.
After some struggles with VLC, FFmpegX and other methods (all very slow, aspect ratio wrong and didn't just work). I thought, lets try out Handbrake, which I already had on my Mac. Am I glad that thought came into mind.
It recognized the MOD files immediatly and corrected the wrong aspect ratio automatically.
Encoding went blazing fast! Amazing. Several times faster than other applications and 100% perfect, others were slow and the results were very far from perfect.
Never really was into this app, cauz' I just looked at it as a DVD-ripper, and the time I ripped DVD's is many many years ago...
Now Handbreak is highly recommendable and of great value to me!
Powerful stuff!
