Handoff, iMessage, Facetime, Continuity NOT WORKING MacBook Air Mid 2013

I switched to a Macbook Air Mid 2013 from a Macbook Pro Mid 2009. I was able to get everything up and running. However Handoff will not show up and I am on the same wifi and both bluetooth on both devices is on and I am signed into the same icloud account on both devices. I cannot get my apple id to log into imessage on the mac or facetime just sits there and does nothing then gives me an authentication error. Continuity same thing. The option for the iPhone is there but the camera or scanning document is grayed out. Almost like the two are not talking to eachother. Bluetooth is working fine as my airpods, mouse and keyboard are connected and wifi as well. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Anyone have any ideas???? Thanks in advance.
