Got an XS Max and an original iPad Pro 12.9, both on the latest 12.1.1 beta.
Have been happily using imessage between the two with no problems, especially useful on iPad for 2 factor logins.

Just bought a new iPad Pro 12.9 2018 and cannot get this to work with this iPad.
Messages do not get received at the same time as my phone or the older iPad, and may, or may not, get synced sometime later.
I had set this new iPad up as a new device with the latest public release - 12.1.
Thought it might be an issue with me running betas so put on 12.1.1 as well, no luck.

This evening, got really fed up, so erased the new device and set up again using backup from previous iPad.
Still the same problem.
It now shows the messages that were there when that backup ran, but is not updating with more recent ones, or collecting new ones at all.

Any ideas at all?
I’ve also checked Handoff is on and iCloud messages, although not sure that is actually necessary ?
Replicated all other menus I could find on my old iPad as well.

Sorry for the long post but hopefully helps knowing what I have tried!

Didn’t realise on my iPhone I had to set which devices to forward messages to.
Don’t remember ever setting that before....

That setting took a while to show up on my iPhone. I had to logout of my apple id and log back in, still it seemed to take a hour or so before the Forwarding menu item appeared.

What I wish is that notification would sync as well.

i.e. i get a notification on my phone for an iMessage, read the msg. The hours later go to the iPad and see the same notification (or a barrage of notifications) for messages that have already been read/deleted.
