Happen to anybody else with Unlocking iPhone?

I was finally able to unlock my iphone today after a long night of frustration. But the way it unlocked was really weird and different from what i tried to do last night. All i did was restored the phone, after restoring it, i installed jailbreak and along with the file "lockdownd". Afterwards, I put in my t-mobile sim card and got ready to do the unlock.app. Without having to install the unlock.app, the iphone became unlocked and i was able to use my t-mobile sim. On top of that, my edge network worked without configuring anything. Keep in mind, i didn't sign up with any t-mobile data plan. I just thought I'd share my experience. As this happen to anybody else here?
