Silicon Valley will be hosting a 30th birthday for the Macintosh computer January 25th; there's even participation by Ridley Scott, he of 1984 commercial fame (and other stuff). Amazing.

And in perhaps an auspicious convergence of the Force or whatever, it looks like the Mavericks Invitational Surf contest might go off on Jan 24, just across the hills from Infinity Loop in Cupertino. That hulking mountain of water you see on your desktop by default might soon be creased by daredevils on boards. Yesterday it was up maybe 20' plus and pretty crazy. Jobs would have probably appreciated the coincidence.

Apple should use the occasion to give a shout-out to the real Mavericks; maybe a fat donation to the Surfrider Foundation is in order since the contest is already sponsored by GoPro.
