Hard disk for mac

I'm looking for hard disk to backup on. Wireless ones like Time Capsule are to expensive! So I was wondering what the difference is between all this disks out there.

What is the difference between USB, Firewire, Firebolt:)confused:) and maybe other for a MacBook PRO? I would like the have about 500GB storage and kind a cheap ;) .
