Yesterday I woke my MBP from sleep at the airport, went up to the airport menu to find the network and got the spinning beach ball. Tried restarting and just got a gray screen without an apple. Took out the battery, reset the PMU and PRAM and restarted - same thing, just a gray screen. Then I restarted again and got the dreaded question mark on the screen so I assumed the drive had crashed. Got on my flight and when i landed tried it again. Same thing with the question mark. This afternoon, I tried again and it booted fine. I ran the disk utility test from the Install DVD and also the hardware test, all fine. SMART status is also ok...

Not sure what to make of this. Everything is working fine now, but I'm worried. What scenarios, other than a failed disk, can cause the question mark/gray screen at startup?

Taking it into Apple is a waste of time since it'll appear as though everything is alright (and maybe it is?) Any ideas or suggestion what else I can do to make sure the HD is ok?

Thanks!
