I have got very low on free hard disk so i have moved many files to my Time Machine but within a day of doing this all the disk space I have freed up gets used up by what I do not know.

I can hear the hard drive going like crazy but I am doing nothing more than receiving emails and surfing the net.I clear the cache in Firefox but this seems to have no effect.

any ideas what might be causing this?

thanks

Andrew

By any chance, is back up taking most of your space?
It does that when TimeMachine is enabled.

But dont worry.
TimeMachine "back ups" made on your HDD (not the TM HDD) will delete automatically and create space if you need it.

time machine

tried to connect to my time machine got this error message

an unexpected error occurred (error code -6584).

i have not enabled time machine for some time.if I do this will it free up space on the mac book pro hard disk?

Only if you accidentally set up time machine to back up to your internal drive. If Time Machine was disabled, it wouldn't be the culprit any way.
