I just took apart a Seagate Freeagent external hard drive because there was a quiet buzzing sound (not that obvious click of a failed hard drive) and able to hook it up to an adapter. When given power, the hard drive buzzes in regular ~1sec increments. It cannot be accessed, but when I'm in Windows, there is acknowledgment of something being connected, but the hard drive cannot be mounted in OS X or Windows. Is the hard drive done? If so, is there any way to get the data off of it short of sending it to a data recovery center?
