This is the second time the Hard Drive cable stops working on my 2009 Macbook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo.

My computer has been running very hot lately, could this be the cause of this cable dying? Will a simple cleanup of the fans and inside part of the computer help with keeping it cool or is my computer too old and that'e the cause of the heating problem?

Thanks

If it's dusty clean it, it will help.

At that age you may want to replace the thermal paste as well, I'm sure there is a guide on iFixit.com if you look.
